This past month really flew by! I enjoyed some game nights with friends and got a nice variety of games in this month.
In total I had 14 plays and 6 games were new to me. Here is the breakdown of my stats:
The 6 games that were new to me:
Grachtenpand: I picked up this small game at Essen after debating whether to back the Kickstarter and ultimately deciding to wait. The light artwork and soft color scheme are pretty, and the game is quick to learn and teach. It’s perfect for a quick, casual play session, especially after dinner.
Beacon Patrol: I finally picked up this game and its expansion at Essen after holding off last year. I wasn’t sure it was the right fit for me, so I decided to wait. After following it online and seeing continued praise—especially for the expansion’s new twists—I couldn’t resist. I’m excited to dive deeper into this one.
Sunrise Lane: I appreciate the simplicity of this game, but it didn’t shine as much as I hoped it would with two players. I’m eager to bring it to my next game night and see how it plays with a larger group—it feels like that might be where it truly shines.
Kyoto no Neko: I couldn’t resist the overwhelming cuteness of this game at Essen and was lucky enough to snag a copy before it sold out. My first playthrough was a bit underwhelming, but after reading reviews, I discovered that the initial game is designed as an introduction to the mechanics. Once you start randomizing the goal cards, the challenge ramps up. I’m hopeful it will shine in future plays because I really want to love this game and keep it a part of my collection.
Kronologic: Paris 1920: If you're looking for a game that really challenges your brain, this is it! I found myself completely stumped at times, struggling to think backwards and piece together the clues. About halfway through, I finally started to get the hang of it, but of course, I was still too slow compared to the other players. Still, I’m excited to dive into the remaining scenarios and sharpen my skills.
Wild Gardens: I cannot tell you how long I have been waiting for this game! It arrived in the mail after I got back from Essen, and I was thrilled to dive into all the goodies it came with. I went all out during the crowdfunding campaign, snagging every expansion pack upgrade and the wooden tokens.
This month's highlights:
Wild Gardens: Unsurprisingly, this was the highlight of my month. I’ve been eagerly anticipating this game ever since backing it in April 2023. The art style is breathtaking, and although the rules seemed intimidating at first glance, the game-play flows smoothly.
Here is an overview of all the games I played in November:
Just one more month until the end of the year! Which games will you be playing this holiday season?
