Whether it’s a weekend getaway, a long-haul flight, or a cozy evening at a cabin, I always make sure to pack a few board games. The right game can turn a quiet night into a fun-filled competition and help you unwind after a long day of exploring. Unfortunately, most board games aren’t exactly travel-friendly—space is limited, and bulky boxes just don’t fit. That’s why I’ve put together a list of my favorite games to bring on trips. These picks are compact, easy to set up, and packed with fun. No matter where you're headed, there’s always room for a great game in your bag!
Your favorite classic tile-placement game now comes in a mini version! Currently, both the original Azul and Azul: Summer Pavilion are available in compact form. These versions come in a cloth bag, making them super easy to toss in your bag and bring along.
All you need are the kitten and cat meeples and the 'bed sheet'. If you wanted to bring the box, you could use the extra space to pack ever more games from this list!
A handful of dice and a few cardboard pieces - that's all you need for this compact game. It's limited to a maximum of three players, making it perfect for small travel groups.
Another dice-heavy game, but with a bit more depth. It’s compact and comes with just a stack of cards, making it easy to bring along.

The dinosaur meeples are adorable! All you need is the bag of dino meeples and a few boards. I love playing both the summer and winter versions together for a total playtime of around 20 minutes.
This game consists of just a deck of cards—so there’s really no excuse not to bring it along. Plus, the illustrations are absolutely gorgeous.
A few dice, some markers, and a small deck of cards—Mind Space is part of AllPlay’s fantastic tiny box series, making it an easy choice for travel.

This roll-and-write series was made for travel! The box is cleverly designed to hold colored pencils, cards, and sheets of paper, keeping everything neatly packed. Whether you’re playing Next Station: London, Tokyo, or Paris, they’re all great on the go.

These boxes were designed for portability! The dry-erase markers and dice fit snugly inside, and when you open the box, you write directly on the inside cover. A great roll-and-write game for traveling.

I grew up playing rummy as a kid, so naturally, I love this game. It adds an extra layer of strategy with its point system and goal cards.

I picked this up at Essen, and it quickly became one of my favorite filler games. It’s just a deck of cards, making it super easy to bring along.
Don’t let the size of the box fool you—this game is just a few dice and some cards, but it packs a lot of fun.

A simplified version of Parks, making it ideal for travel. The box is small, and the gameplay is quicker, making it perfect for on-the-go gaming.

One of my all-time favorite games! The fact that it’s so easy to bring anywhere makes it my top pick for vacations.
