This was a slower gaming month for me because I did a bit of traveling this month. I was in Paris for a water polo tournament and I luckily squeezed in some time to go to a board game store! It's a new thing where if I'm in a new city I try to check out a local board game store. I don't normally have certain intentions on buying something, but in this instance I did. Next Station Paris recently came out and I said that I have to take the opportunity to look for the game...I mean what are the odds of getting it new....in Paris! I was so giddy taking this picture.
I track my plays with BGStats and every month I look forward to creating my grid of all the different board game covers of the games I've played. What interests me more are actually the statistics and I particularly look at how many new games I was able to play. Surprisingly I had 5 new games I managed to play in May.
The 5 new to me games were:
- Next Station Paris (obviously...how could I buy it and now direclty try it out)
- Paint the Roses: this is a game that I've seen online in the past, but never thought I would see it in stores in Germany. I went to Gamer's HQ one weekend for their Cleaning out sale and found this gem!
- Merchants of the Dark Road: This game has been sitting on my shelf unplayed since February and I'm soo glad I got the change to play it finally
- Welcome to the Moon: I was searching for months for this game! I was able to buy an English copy in the US on my latest trip back home and I'm so excited to get more into this campaign. I'm already loving that there are 8 different maps to play.
- Wanderlust: I have been trying to wait ever so patiently for this game to come! I backed it on Kickstarter and have slowly been seeing people recieve their copies and was starting to get sad when I didn't recieve mine. Thankfully it eventually came and I cracked it open immediately.
Needless to say with how busy May was, I'm quite pleased with all the different games I got to enjoy. Of the new games I tried, Wanderlust was my favorite only because I've been anticipating it so much. As soon as I finished, it reminded me of Ticket to Ride - I realized after evaluating my collection and talking with other friends that enjoy the hobby, my sweet spot is the family game/Kennerspiel genre.
Here are the rest of the games I played in May:
